Chemical acne skin peel - The best of eBay

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Time for another weird skin care product! You know I love them, see more here.

We know there is weird stuff being sold on eBay but this thing I came across today disturbed me deeply. This seller offers a chemical acne skin peel that is sure to rejuvenate your skin. Sure, after you’re done looking like Michael Jackson for a while. This is acid applied on the face and this poor girl’s face looks totally burnt. Ouch!

Cat Litter Facial Mask

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

OK, what is wrong with people?! First they introduce nightingale poop facial (remember the Geisha facial ?), then fish pedicure (which has been banned, supposedly), and now? Now they praise the cat litter facial mask? OK, what is so wrong with old fashioned, natural, “normal” facial mask?

I found a recipe for cat litter facial mask on about.com. I’ve seen weirder things posted there (I actually use about.com a lot, love it as a reference) but I can’t wrap my mind around this one. If cat litter was good for your face, don’t you think the big pharmaceutical/cosmetic companies wouldn’t have got a hold of the recipe yet? Also, they recommend “Drops of your favorite essential oil” which is misleading because we know that not every essential oil is good for all skin types and some essential oils can really be bad if not used properly.

What’s next? Cat poop?

The Geisha Facial

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

OK, seriously, what is wrong with these people? A spa in NYC is now offering the Geisha facial. Sounds exotic, doesn’t it? Well, not so much!

The Geisha Facial is prepared with bird poop. I guess the fact that it is the nightingale’s poop is supposed to make a difference, because, you know, nightingales are special :) Come on! Dried droppings are mixed with rice bran and then applied on the face. The owner found inspiration in the story her mother told her about this recipe being used by geishas to remove the heavy make up. Um, that’s nice but that was also in the 18th century and we have improved the way we treat our skin since then. Maybe not considering women pay $180 for this pampering session. And here I am, thinking fish pedicure was kind of odd. Next time you see bird’s droppings, do not waste a moment, now you have an idea on how to use it. Yuck :P

Fish pedicure, anyone?

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

I am not sure if I am the only one who gets queasy about this fish pedicure thing. This is quite bizarre if you ask me, but it turns out, a spa in VA offers a treatment where carp (also known as “doctor fish”), nibbles on the scaly skin. It is supposedly very effective. This spa treatment is not what I mean when I post recipes for home spa night, but it sure is natural. Anyone for fish pedicure? :)

Here’s a video of it - eeek!
